GAO Blasts Gene Test Cos. For Misleading Marketing

Law360, New York (July 22, 2010, 3:11 PM EDT) -- At a congressional hearing Thursday on the health consequences of direct-to-consumer genetic testing, a U.S. Government Accountability Office representative accused several genetic-testing companies of deceptive marketing and criticized such tests as of little or no practical use.

Gregory Kutz, who heads the agency's forensic audits and special investigations unit, submitted a GAO report on genetic testing to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's subcommittee on oversights and investigations, saying that misleading test results were further muddied by the deceptive marketing.
