Sunoco, US Call Truce In Philly Oil Plume Fight

Law360, New York (July 23, 2010, 4:24 PM ET) -- Sunoco Inc. and co-defendant Atlantic Richfield Co. have come to terms with the U.S. government in a nearly five-year battle over petroleum contamination from a Philadelphia refinery, which the U.S. claimed it spent more than $22 million cleaning up.

Judge Anita Brody of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania dismissed the remaining claims in the case without prejudice Thursday, noting that Sunoco, Arco and the federal government had reached an agreement in principle to settle the case.
