China Opposes Tough EU Sanctions Against Iran

Law360, New York (July 30, 2010, 5:25 PM EDT) -- China raised concerns Friday about the new, stricter sanction the European Union imposed against Iran, saying it would prefer renewed negotiations with the country over its rogue nuclear program.

Jiang Yu, spokeswoman for China's Ministry of Foreign affairs, said the government opposed the sanctions European foreign ministers enacted targeting Iran's energy and financial services sectors July 26, a move that mirrored the U.S. decision to push beyond measures the United Nations passed in June.
