Judge Won't Invalidate VNUS Laser Treatment Patents

Law360, New York (August 5, 2010, 5:30 PM EDT) -- The judge presiding over VNUS Medical Technologies Inc.'s lawsuit accusing rivals of infringing its patents covering laser treatments for varicose veins has nixed the defendants' bid to get three of the patents deemed invalid.

Judge Maxine M. Chesney on Tuesday denied two motions for summary judgment of invalidity filed by defendants Biolitec Inc., Total Vein Solutions LLC and New Star Lasers Inc.

The defendants sought to have three of the five patents VNUS has asserted in the suit ruled invalid.
