Bill Would Ban Abortion Funding Under Health Care Law

Law360, New York (August 5, 2010, 6:43 PM EDT) -- Sens. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Tom Coburn, R-Okla., introduced a bill Thursday designed to prevent any federal money from flowing to insurance plans that cover elective abortions.

The legislation, known as the Excluding Abortion Coverage from Health Reform Act, would apply the so-called Hyde amendment — which bans taxpayer subsidies of abortion under Medicaid — to the new health care reform law.
