IP Litigation Trends: Energy

Law360, New York (February 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Energy companies are not involved in intellectual property disputes at nearly the same rate as pharmaceutical or technology firms. But they still regularly duke it out over patents and trademarks, according to our survey of the 65 utility, gas and oil companies in the S&P 500.

The survey found that 10 new trademark cases and eight new patent cases involving energy companies were filed in federal court in 2006. Chevron Corp. was the most litigious of the bunch with four trademark cases and one patent case,...
