ITC Explains Mixed Ruling In Rambus-Nvidia IP War

Law360, New York (August 11, 2010, 5:57 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has announced the reasoning behind its July decision that three memory controller patents held by Rambus Inc. were valid and that Nvidia Corp. infringed those patents, saying the patents were substantively different from prior art alleged to invalidate them.

Disclosures made by the so-called Farmwald and Kawasaki patents would not convince anyone with ordinary skill in the art to implement the “strobe signal”/“signal” limitations disclosed by Rambus' so-called Barth patents, the ITC said in a 22-page opinion Tuesday.
