Aromont Wins Challenge Of Meat, Veggie Stock Tariffs

Law360, New York (August 13, 2010, 3:11 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has granted food importer Aromont USA Inc. summary judgment in its challenge to a 100 percent duty rate assessed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on meat and vegetable stock products.

The agency misclassified the imported products — made from veal, chicken, duck, lamb, beef, fish, lobster, mushrooms and other vegetables — as soup, but should have classified them as "food preparations not otherwise specified," Judge Thomas J. Aquilino Jr. of the U.S. Court of International Trade said.
