No Calif. Same-Sex Marriage During Appeal: 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (August 16, 2010, 8:12 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has put same-sex marriage in California on hold while it hears an appeal by supporters of Proposition 8, overturning the district judge's decision to let the marriages go forward.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit stayed the district court decision legalizing the marriages in a two-page order issued late Monday, a move that Judge Vaughn Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California had declined to make himself.
