Homeowners Sue Insurer Over Unpaid Fire Claims

Law360, New York (August 17, 2010, 6:47 PM EDT) -- More than 1,150 homeowners have slapped Farmers Group Inc. with a lawsuit accusing the insurer of failing to pay their damage claims in the wake of a massive 2009 wildfire near Los Angeles.

The suit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the company and its affiliates of breach of contract, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and unfair business practices for allegedly denying or minimizing claims in an effort to maximize profits.
