Apple Settles Download Patent; 14 More Companies Sued

Law360, New York (August 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A small company that claims to own a patent for downloading services has settled a lawsuit against Apple Computer but filed additional complaints in Texas against a host of e-commerce players, including Amazon.com, The New York Times Co. and Hallmark Cards.

Apple agreed to a European agreement to license patents from the relatively obscure E-Data, a company that claims to hold property rights on the process of selling music online, according to a statement from E-Data.
