Merck Backs Away From Gardasil Lobbying

Law360, New York (February 21, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Buckling under pressure, Merck & Co. is abandoning its controversial lobbying campaign for states to require pre-teen girls to receive its three-shot cervical cancer vaccine in order to attend school.

The pharmaceutical giant said Tuesday it made the decision to immediately suspend the campaign, which it had funded through a third party, after re-evaluating the program, according to the Associated Press.
