Bill Would Bar Judges From Hearing Donors' Cases

Law360, New York (August 26, 2010, 6:35 PM ET) -- The California Legislature has passed a bill that would impose strict disqualification rules on trial court judges hearing cases that involve certain former contributors to their election campaigns.

The law, Assembly Bill No. 2487, would require trial court judges to disqualify themselves from hearing a case if one of the parties or attorneys involved contributed $1,500 or more to the judge's previous election campaign, if the campaign took place within the previous six years.
