Asarco Strikes Deal Over Wash. Mine Cleanup

Law360, New York (August 26, 2010, 7:08 PM EDT) -- Asarco LLC has agreed to pay $100,000 to resolve a claim brought in bankruptcy court by the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeking cleanup costs related to a copper and tungsten mine in Washington state.

Asarco’s plan administrator filed a notice with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday indicating that the parties had reached a settlement agreement, which is subject to a 30-day public comment period.

The company entered into the deal without admitting any wrongdoing.
