L-3 Hits Sony With Image Sensor Patent Suit

Law360, New York (August 31, 2010, 5:37 PM EDT) -- Defense contractor L-3 Communications Corp. has Sony Corp. in its crosshairs, claiming the consumer electronics giant infringes two patents covering semiconductor image sensors used in Sony's digital cameras.

The complaint, lodged Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, claims Sony has incorporated L-3’s patented technology in digital cameras, computers and security systems.

The technology in question relates to complementary metal-oxide semiconductor image sensors, which L-3 originally developed for military low-light applications, according to the complaint.
