4-Year Sentence Handed Down In Medicare Fraud Case

Law360, New York (September 10, 2010, 12:34 PM EDT) -- Ernesto Montaner has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with allegations that Montaner, his father and another conspirator took part in a $2.8 million Medicare fraud scheme.

Judge Marcia G. Cooke of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida sentenced Montaner to 48 months in prison on Wednesday. Judge Cooke also ordered Montaner to pay nearly $2.9 million in restitution, for which he and his father Ernesto Angel Montaner are jointly and severally liable.
