Doctors Hit Calif. Blue Shield Hit With Class Action

Law360, New York (September 13, 2010, 5:21 PM EDT) -- The California Medical Association has hit Blue Shield of California with a class action claiming a program that singles out physicians for high-quality patient care is misleading and unfair.

The CMA alleges in a complaint filed Thursday in California Superior Court that the system that Blue Shield uses to award “Blue Ribbons” — icons added next to a doctor’s name on the insurer’s website — relies on flawed methodology and insufficient, claims-related data.
