Nichia Launches Suit Over LED Patents

Law360, New York (September 14, 2010, 2:15 PM EDT) -- Japanese diode manufacturer Nichia Corp. has sued U.S. hand-tool maker Wilmar Corp. for allegedly infringing four patents covering light-emitting diode and semiconductor technology.

Nichia, a privately-held company based in Anan, Japan, filed its complaint Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Nichia accuses Renton, Wash.-based Wilmar of infringing two patents that cover LEDs and two patents that cover gallium-nitride based semiconductors, issued between 1997 and 2009.
