Applied Materials, ASM Settle Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (August 12, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chip equipment maker Applied Materials Inc. and Dutch rival ASM International NV have agreed to end their two-year old patent dispute, in a deal in which neither party will make any financial concessions or sign any licensing agreements.

The settlement agreement calls for both companies, along with two ASM units, to drop their complaints, dismissing all claims without prejudice.

A representative for Applied Materials conceded that protracted litigation would be a waste of money and management time.
