Senate Unlikely To Consider Food Safety Bill: Reid

Law360, New York (September 16, 2010, 5:53 PM EDT) -- Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the Senate Thursday that a landmark food safety bill will probably not become law before midterm elections, blaming Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., for stalling the measure.

The bill, called the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, would provide the Secretary of Health and Human Services with expanded authority related to food safety and require the secretary to establish new food safety standards. A version of it has already passed the House.
