University Fined $1.1M For Nuclear Safety Violations

Law360, New York (February 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Federal regulators have fined the University of California $1.1 million for recurring nuclear-safety violations at its Los Alamos nuclear weapons lab, but thanks to the university’s status as a non-profit, it is under no legal obligation to pay it.

The National Nuclear Security Administration announced the violation on Monday, saying that various infractions occurred in 2005, when the university was the sole manager of Los Alamos National Laboratory.
