Taro, Shire Strike Deal Over Generic Epilepsy Drug

Law360, New York (September 17, 2010, 3:23 PM EDT) -- Shire LLC has reached a licensing agreement with Israeli generics maker Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., quickly bringing resolution to a two-month-old patent infringement suit over epilepsy drug Carbatrol.

Florence, Ky.-based Shire will license one of two patents-in-suit to Taro in exchange for the defendant's dropping any challenge to its validity, according to a Thursday order approving the settlement from Judge Paul G. Gardephe of U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
