US Appeals $68.8M Hit In Aviation Fuel Case

Law360, New York (September 20, 2010, 5:17 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government has appealed a court order requiring it to pay Shell Oil Co. and Atlantic Richfield Co. a combined $68.8 million to help clean up sites contaminated with aviation fuel used by the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Government attorneys filed notice of appeal Friday in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. The brief notice does not indicate what the government will argue on appeal, and a representative for the Department of Justice declined to comment.
