Proxy Firm Sides With Burkle In Barnes & Noble Fight

Law360, New York (September 20, 2010, 2:57 PM EDT) -- Powerful proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. has backed billionaire investor Ron Burkle's bid to change Barnes & Noble's board of directors and alter its current shareholder rights plan, handing the investor a potentially crucial win in his proxy battle with the bookseller.

In a report issued Monday, the advisory firm said the bookseller's stockholders should vote for Burkle's suggested slate of directors, which includes himself, when they assemble for the annual shareholders' meeting Sept. 28.
