BHP Wins US Antitrust OK For $43B Potash Bid

Law360, New York (September 24, 2010, 11:57 AM EDT) -- U.S. antitrust regulators have signed off on BHP Billiton Ltd.'s hostile $43 billion bid for Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc., but the Australian mining giant still faces an extended review of its offer for the Canadian fertilizer company from Canada's competition watchdog.

The Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division terminated the mandatory waiting period for the deal early, BHP said Thursday.
