Law360, New York (September 24, 2010, 7:01 PM ET) -- A federal judge told the U.S. Air Force on Friday to reinstate an openly gay flight nurse to a reserve unit, saying her discharge under the government's “don't ask, don't tell” policy damaged morale, unit cohesion and military readiness.
Judge Ronald B. Leighton of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington issued the ruling Friday after a six-day bench trial, where Maj. Margaret Witt's fellow service members testified that her departure negatively impacted the unit.
