Wright Medical To Pay $7.9M Over False Marketing

Law360, New York (October 1, 2010, 2:29 PM EDT) -- Wright Medical Technology Inc. has entered a deferred prosecution agreement with the U.S. — and agreed to pay a $7.9 million settlement — over allegations that the medical device maker's marketing practices and consulting deals with orthopedic surgeons amounted to illegal kickbacks and false claims.

The U.S. attorney's office lodged the criminal complaint and deferred prosecution in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey on Thursday to resolve allegations that Wright Medical's consulting agreements violated federal anti-kickback statutes.
