High Court Rejects Ex-WorldCom CEO's Appeal

Law360, New York (March 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court refused Monday to hear an appeal by former WorldCom Inc. chief executive officer Bernard J. Ebbers of his 25-year sentence for his role in the securities fraud that brought the company down.

In October, Ebbers' attorneys appealed a July ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that also rejected his appeal.

Ebbers’ lawyers argued that his conviction should be overturned because the government kept key witnesses from testifying on his behalf by awarding them immunity. The appeal also...
