Counsel Drops Ball In $170M BDO Seidman Suit

Law360, New York (March 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Florida judge declared a mistrial Monday in a $170 million suit against accounting firm BDO Seidman LLP, after an attorney for the plaintiffs violated a pretrial order by mentioning the suicide of a BDO Seidman executive.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jose Rodriguez barred any references to the suicide because it was irrelevant, highly prejudicial and devoid of any probative value, said Arturo Alvarez of Miami-based firm Alvarez, Armas & Borron, BDO Seidman’s local counsel.
