Former Hartford, Conn., Mayor Appeals Conviction

Law360, New York (October 6, 2010, 4:03 PM EDT) -- Former Hartford, Conn., Mayor Eddie A. Perez has appealed his conviction for government corruption, arguing that his rights were unduly prejudiced by the consolidation of two charges into one trial.

The appeal, filed Friday in Hartford Superior Court, comes a few weeks after Perez was sentenced to three years in prison. According to preliminary papers, the principle issue on appeal will be whether Judge Julia DiCocco Dewey properly combined a bribery charge with a larceny-by-extortion charge.
