US Producers Slag China Over Steel Intervention

Law360, New York (October 15, 2010, 5:01 PM EDT) -- China has managed to get a stranglehold on world steel production through its government's heavy intervention in domestic industry, something it swore off when it joined the World Trade Organization, a report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute charges.

The growth of China's steelmakers — which now make eight times more steel than U.S. producers — is not consistent with what would be expected if the government kept its hands off the market, according to a Wiley Rein LLP-authored report released Thursday.
