Sanofi, Bristol-Myers Win $442M In Plavix Patent Suit

Law360, New York (October 19, 2010, 1:28 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has ordered Apotex Inc. to shell out $442.2 million plus interest to drugmaker partners Sanofi-Aventis SA and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. for infringing their patent for blockbuster blood-thinning medication Plavix.

In a ruling Tuesday, Judge Sidney H. Stein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Sanofi and Bristol-Myers were entitled to $442.2 million – an amount equal to half of Apotex's net sales of the drug for the relevant period, a sum that the parties agreed totaled $884.4...
