Rakuten Asks JFTC To Probe Google-Yahoo Japan Deal

Law360, New York (October 20, 2010, 6:05 PM EDT) -- Japanese Internet shopping giant Rakuten Inc. has reportedly asked Japan's antitrust watchdog to investigate a planned search engine partnership between Yahoo Japan Corp. and Google Inc., saying that the tie-up could hinder competition in Japan’s Internet services market.

Rakuten lodged a petition with Japan's Fair Trade Commission demanding a probe of the deal between Japan's two top search service providers, the company said Wednesday.
