ITC Judge Nixes Spansion Flash Memory Patent Claims

Law360, New York (October 22, 2010, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s flash memory chips do not infringe any valid claims of two patents belonging to Spansion Inc., a U.S. International Trade Commission judge ruled Friday.

In an initial determination, Administrative Law Judge Charles E. Bullock rejected claims that Samsung's chips — used by fellow respondents Apple Inc., Research In Motion Ltd. and Sony Corp. in electronic devices — violate one of Spansion's patents-in-suit.

Judge Bullock did find infringement of the other patent-in-suit, but concluded the claims Spansion had asserted were invalid.
