EU Court Upholds $2.5M In Alliance One Cartel Fines

Law360, New York (October 27, 2010, 11:58 AM EDT) -- A European court has upheld a €1.8 million ($2.5 million) fine against U.S.-based tobacco seller Alliance One International Inc. stemming from its subsidiary's involvement with a Spanish tobacco cartel.

The European Commission was “fully entitled to attribute liability” for the wrongdoing of Alliance One's Spanish subsidiary to Alliance itself, the European General Court ruled Wednesday.
