Price-Fixing Fine Reduced To Keep China Air Afloat

Law360, New York (October 29, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT) -- Antitrust prosecutors are urging a judge to accept a $40 million price-fixing fine against China Airlines Ltd. that’s less than half the minimum fine called for by federal sentencing guidelines.

The sentencing memorandum, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colombia, follows a Sept. 27 plea agreement between China Air and the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust division, part of Justice’s industry-wide probe of price-fixing in the international air cargo industry that has already netted Northwest Airlines Inc., British Airways PLC and others....
