Philippines To Pass Optical Media Bill by December

Law360, New York (October 30, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Philippines is expected to pass the Optical Media Bill by December this year as part of an effort to bolster intellectual property rights in the country, the Philippines News Agency reported Thursday.

The bill requires companies or individuals engaged in the reproduction of CDs and other optical media to secure a license. The measure also institutionalizes a "source identification code system."

The proposed law will dissolve the Videogram Regulatory Board and create in its place an "Optical Media Board" under the Office of the President....
