Insurer Settles Dispute Over Miss. River Oil Spill

Law360, New York (October 29, 2010, 4:04 PM EDT) -- American Commercial Lines LLC has settled a dispute with an insurer over coverage for a multimillion-dollar oil spill in the Mississippi River caused when a barge owned by the company collided with another ship and sank.

Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana dismissed the lawsuit Thursday. The defendant, Water Quality Insurance Syndicate, insured DRD Towing Co. LLC, which owned a towboat that was in control of American Commercial's barge when the accident occurred.
