DOT Warns Chevron Of Possible Fine For Utah Oil Spill

Law360, New York (November 2, 2010, 5:37 PM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. is facing a proposed $423,600 fine for neglecting to properly maintain a pipeline that failed in June near Salt Lake City, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The DOT said Monday that the pipeline — located near the University of Utah — leaked for over 10 hours, dumping 33,600 gallons of oil into Red Butte Creek and the surrounding area before Chevron was notified by local firefighters.
