Giuliani’s Law Firm Has Ties To Chavez

Law360, New York (March 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bracewell & Giuliani LLP has reportedly done lobbying work on behalf of Citgo Petroleum Corp., an oil company with ties to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

According to Bloomberg News, which first broke the story, the law firm has netted $125,000 to $250,000 lobbying for Citgo since Rudy Giuliani became a partner in 2005.

Lobbying on behalf of Citgo is certainly not illegal. However, Citgo is a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela SA, the state-owned oil company under Chavez’ control.
