NM To Join Regional Cap-And-Trade Program

Law360, New York (November 3, 2010, 3:55 PM EDT) -- The New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board has cleared the way for the state to participate in a regional cap-and-trade program, voting 4-3 in favor of what proponents are calling the most comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction rules in the U.S.

Under the cap-and-trade program, which is being organized by the Western Climate Initiative, all stationary sources that emit at least 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide will be required to reduce their emissions by 2 percent per year from 2012 to 2020.
