Hartford Seeks To Avoid $1.8M Microsoft Payment

Law360, New York (November 5, 2010, 4:55 PM EDT) -- Hartford Casualty Insurance Co. does not want to cover a $1.8 million settlement regarding a software license dispute between Microsoft Corp. and an Internet software seller insured by the company.

Hartford filed a lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, saying the underlying dispute does not fall within the advertising injury provisions of the commercial general liability policy it issued to SoftwareMedia.com Inc. A number of exclusions also apply, Hartford contends.
