Payless Hit With Calif. Minimum Wage, OT Action

Law360, New York (November 8, 2010, 4:19 PM EST) -- A former Payless Shoesource Inc. employee has launched a putative class action accusing the discount shoe giant of violating California labor law by failing to pay its hourly employees minimum wage and proper overtime.

California resident Katrilla Atkins alleges in a class action complaint that her former employer “in an effort to save the company untold amounts of money” pressured managers into forcing hourly workers to work overtime without compensation, which resulted in these employees' actual pay rate to fall below the legal minimum wage....
