EU Fines 11 Carriers €799M For Air Cargo Cartel

Law360, New York (November 9, 2010, 12:38 PM EST) -- The European Commission fined 11 airlines — including British Airways PLC, Air France-KLM and Cargolux Airlines International SA — more than €799 million ($1.1 billion) Tuesday for allegedly operating a long-running cartel to coordinate fuel and security surcharges on air cargo service.

Air Canada, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., Japan Airlines Corp., LAN Airlines SA's Chilean unit, Martinair Holland NV, SAS AB, Singapore Airlines Ltd. and Qantas Airways Ltd. also all face multimillion-euro fines for their alleged roles in the six-year cartel, which encompassed air freight flights...
