Guardian Sues AT&T, Microsoft Over V-Chip Patents

Law360, New York (November 10, 2010, 7:20 PM EST) -- Guardian Media Technologies Ltd. on Wednesday accused 36 companies — including AT&T Inc., Microsoft Corp., TiVo Inc. and Staples Inc. — of infringing two patents related to parental control features in digital video recorders, personal computers and other devices.

Longview, Texas-based Guardian Media filed its complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, asserting U.S. Patent Numbers 4,930,158 and 4,930,160.

Both patents, which Guardian Media has asserted in other cases, are now expired, the complaint states.
