Allstate Chairman Can't Escape Age Bias Action

Law360, New York (November 11, 2010, 5:03 PM EST) -- A judge has denied a bid by Allstate Insurance Co.'s former chairman and CEO to escape a long-running age bias class action that accused the insurer of favoring younger workers when it switched thousands of employees to independent contractor status.

Judge Ronald Buckwalter of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Wednesday rejected ex-CEO Edward M. Liddy's contention that the Employee Retirement Income Security Act did not allow claims against individuals in their capacities as corporate officers.
