US Marshals Nominee Criticized Over Contractor Ties

Law360, New York (November 11, 2010, 6:28 PM EST) -- A coalition of human rights and criminal justice organizations has come out against the nomination of Stacia A. Hylton to head the U.S. Marshals Service, citing her close ties to the private prison industry and the conflict those ties would create when handing out federal contracts.

Hylton was employed from June 2004 to February 2010 as the Federal Detention Trustee, during which time she allegedly awarded a number of multimillion-dollar contracts to GEO Group Inc., the nation’s second-largest for-profit private prison company, according to the coalition,...
