Caltrans Stormwater Program Inadequate: EPA

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 5:18 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered the California Department of Transportation to improve its stormwater management program to better control runoff from road construction and maintenance.

The EPA on Tuesday told Caltrans to upgrade its current system for managing stormwater runoff, saying the department’s failure to adhere to federal standards likely allowed pollutants to flow from highway projects and maintenance facilities into state waterways.
