S. Africa Raids Agricultural Lime Cos. In Cartel Sting

Law360, New York (November 18, 2010, 12:45 PM ET) -- South Africa’s competition watchdog has raided major agricultural lime manufacturers and suppliers suspected of price-fixing and other cartel abuses.

On Thursday, the country's Competition Commission announced it was conducting a search-and-seizure operation at five companies accused of driving down competition and exploiting profits in the market for agricultural lime products.

Investigators searched the offices of H. Pistorius & Co. (Pty) Ltd., Kalkor (Pty) Ltd., Plaaslike Boeredienste (Pty) Ltd., Fertiliser Association of South Africa and Grasland Ondernemings (Pty) Ltd., according to a statement.
