UK Steps Up Review Of $7M Chemicals Merger

Law360, New York (November 19, 2010, 2:43 PM EST) -- The U.K's Office of Fair Trading asked the country's competition watchdog Friday to review a £4.6 million ($7.4 million) deal for Dorf Ketal Chemicals AG to acquire Johnson Matthey PLC's titanate and zirconate business, known as Vertec.

Titanate and zirconate are chemicals used in various manufacturing and industrial processes, including the production of certain inks, sealants and coatings, according to the OFT. Dorf and Johnson Matthey are the two largest suppliers of those materials in the U.K., it said.
